City of Condom in the Gers

Situated on the Baïse river between the Armagnac and Agenais region, Condom is the main town of the Ténarèze.

The course of the Baïse was once channeled to allow the exportation of armagnac to Bordeaux. This activity has in the past granted prosperity to the city.

Armagnac is famous for the pilgrims of St. Jacques de Compostela. As sailors, pilgrims warmed their bodies, cured their wounds and sublimated their faith with a few sips of «aygo ardente».

As they left the city, they took with them, going down to Spain or returning home, some remedial vials and carried all over Europe the word of salvation and medicinal armagnac.
